Quarantine Q & AYou asked, I answered! Here are my top questions asked about everything from weddings to photography to faith and my journey…
1. What is your favorite shot to take at weddings? The best shot I’ve ever taken was during something called a “sunset session” in which the photographer sneaks the couple away while the rest of the guests are eating dinner. This is one of the best opportunities for a special moment between just the couple, which you’ll savor after being swept up in the hustle and bustle of your big day. If you’re not careful, the wedding will be over before you know it, so having an excuse to stop and soak in such a special moment will be priceless for you. Another option I’ve seen is a “last dance,” when all of the guests are gone, having the DJ play a song and just dance together. Any special moment between just the two of you is one I love to capture! 2. Do you like traveling? Of course! I actually moved out to Denver to do just that. (If you haven’t gotten a chance to peek at the journey that brought me 1,000 miles away from home the summer after I graduated college, you can see it here!) Naturally, the quarantine has pushed back on that and caused me to cancel an international trip to Ireland and Scotland, but we all have to make our sacrifices. I’m hoping to be back in Denver by the end of May, and I can’t wait to be back! 3. What resources do you have for brides and for photographers? I’m SO glad you asked! I’ve got plenty of wedding resources on my Resources page, including a full blog series answering my most frequently asked questions, a Wedding Planning Checklist, and even fun resources like How to Incorporate Your Dog in Your Big Day! I’ve also got a few new ones coming out soon, so be checking back for that. For entrepreneurs and other photographers, I’ve got a big resource out right now going through my biggest mistakes when starting out and giving suggestions for how to have a much smoother start on a budget than I did! 4. How are you doing with all of this? What an important (and tough) question. It really comes in waves for me. Some days, especially during the work week, I’m fine since I have a much more consistent WFH schedule. But being apart from my friends, church community, and my students has taken a toll on me. I feel so grateful to have this time to spend with my family, but I’m aching for the days when things will go back to normal. I’m just trying to lean into the Lord and trust that we’ll come out of this stronger than when we started… 5. What is your favorite color? I posed this as a joke question, but here it goes… I honestly think my favorite colors have changed since becoming a photographer because I have so many special ones I look for in photos now, especially around Golden Hour. The burnt orange of a sunset is so alive and warm, I love that. And I also love a good deep rose color, close to red but far from baby pink. In fact, selecting my brand colors to incorporate these was really important to me, but it was tough to choose only a few that I felt really represented my work. If you check out my story highlights on my Instagram page, you can find the brand colors I eventually chose for myself and hope to highlight in my work.
